Experience a delicious treat authentic to Hawaii this Saturday from 10am to 2pm at SurfBerry.
“As a surfer, when you make the pilgrimage to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaiian shaved ice is a must on your to-do list….We’re bringing Hawaii to Wrightsville Beach,” says SurfBerry owner, Rick Civelli.
Shave ice was brought to Hawaii by the thousands of Japanese who migrated there to work in sugar cane plantations and pineapple fields. The workers created a fluffy, snow-like dessert by shaving blocks of ice with their Japanese swords and then pouring different flavored juices or syrups on them. They enjoyed Shave Ice as a refreshing break from the hot, tropical climate.
To continue the practice natural flavoring, only pure cane sugar is used for SurfBerry’s syrups. SurfBerry is the only place in town that locals and visitors can get a taste of this exotic treat. “We import traditional flavors such as Li Hing Mui, Guava, and Passion-fruit straight from Hawaii so that you can experience this tropical dessert right here in Wrightsville Beach,” adds Rick.
Many Hawaiians choose to get their Shave Ice “snow capped” with sweetened condensed milk drizzled over the top. Azuki Beans in the bottom of the cup is another crowd favorite! This Saturday, everyone is welcome to have fun mixing and matching over 20 different flavors and trying all the possibilities!
